NYC Day Five

NYC is a fabulous place to celebrate a birthday! We headed to the Highline in the morning. First stop: The Shops and Restaurants at Hudson Yards. Shopped at Uniqlo, Muji, and enjoyed the artwork and views of the Vessel.

It was a beautiful day to walk the Highline. Lots of tourists and sunshine! We left the path at Chelsea Market, found a sample sale where Ashley bought an amazing dress for the Ballet Idaho fall gala, and I bought brownies from Fat Witch Bakery.

From Chelsea Market we headed to the West Village for birthday lunch and cocktails at While We Were Young. Cheers and happy birthday to me--wrinkles and all!

Our much anticipated birthday dessert was purchased at Milk Bar across the street. I had a slice of birthday cake and Ashley had a slice of Milk Bar pie (formerly known as Crack Pie). The frosting was everything.
We were also able to spend some time at the Stonewall National Monument in Christopher Park across the street from Stonewall Inn. It was impactful being there and thinking about developments in the LGBTQ civil rights movement since the uprising happened on this spot 50 years ago. This is literally where pride began.
From Stonewall, we were undecided about what to do next so we wandered a bit in the village. We enjoyed seeing the neighborhood and tried to imagine what it's like to live here.
We also spied the Friends Apartment at 90 Bedford Street on our neighborhood walk.
After wandering a bit, we decided to see a film at the Independent Film Center. We picked a winner in This Changes Everything, a documentary focused on the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women in the entertainment industry. It was 96 minutes well-spent on my special day.
For dinner we went to The Happiest Hour, 121 W 10th Street. The bouncer pretended to be very surprised at my age (good boy) and we had a bite to eat in the dark little bar downstairs. I enjoyed a delicious cocktail appropriately named the "Miss Baker." Yum.

What a fabulously full day of NYC treats. Loved every minute of the entire day!
