Creative Christmas Challenge

"Art allows us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." -Thomas Merton What happened, 2015? Not enough art. So...I'm ringing in 2016 with a little personal challenge to get me jump started. During my winter vacation, my goal is to create something every day and post it to the blog. Why now in the last two (and busiest) weeks of the year? It all started with a recent mid-year admission process (day job). As the student's mother and I worked closely together, we found we had some things in common. Turns out she had looked at my bio on the school website (written five years ago) and saw that I described myself as a papercrafter and blogger. Truth be told, I have not been able to make a lot of time for my art in the past year, and I haven't blogged since January, for goodness sake! It was sad to admit that I haven't made time for these things I love. I'm going to turn that around. I have some time off over Winter Break and will do my ver...

It's a Blog Party!

One of my favorite books of all time is "Go, Dog, Go!" Today, I'm tweaking that fabulous title to read, "Go, Blog, Go!" Because...it's a Blog Party! I won't even ask you if you like my hat. I'm just so happy to be invited to the party. This Blog Party is hosted by Karen Valentine, creator of the "My Desert Cottage" blog . Every July, Karen urges women to blog about the spaces in which they create their art. Links for the blog hop will be available at www.mydesertcottage.com on Saturday, July 14. Now I'm not a professional artist, but I love to spend my free time paper crafting. Who wants to cook, clean and do laundry when you can stay in your comfies and scrapbook or make cards? I think Twyla Tharp had it exactly right when she said, "Art is the only way to run away without leaving home." And what better way for me to kick off my "staycation" from my day job than to share with you my favorite place to be. I ho...

Springing Into Action

Rainy days in the Pacific Northwest are a blessing for more than one reason. To me, it means another excuse to stay inside and craft. Thanks to the wet weather, I can easily make any excuses for staying inside where it's warm and dry. It is such a treat to spend hours and hours making cards and sorting through my art supplies! Here are a few of my recent creations... Hello, Seattle! Put on a happy face! These colors are so sweet. I bought this typewriter stamp set before Seattle's "Monkey Love" closed their shop. Finally! I used it. I also love that it comes with a stamp that says, "You're old school and you're cool." Yes, indeedy. My sister just did a "banner" blog post on her "Ribbon, Glitter & Glue" blog . We can't get enough of these super cute, celebratory flags. This card is a fun mix of paper and ribbon. Nice texture. Cue the wind machines and let it fly! I do have to admit, though, that whenever I se...
